Education Reform—Long Over Due
There was a time that America led the world in quality education. Of course, this was before the Federal Government decided to bypass the Constitution of the United States and take control of the classroom.
Since taking the “leadership” role in education, the Federal Government has taken the emphasis off the study and learning of Reading, Science, Writing, Math, etc and placed the emphasis on such things as Diversity, Acceptance, and Globalism. The latest bill designed to destroy this once great system of education is the “No Child Left Behind” act. I personally have witnessed first hand how this “No Child Left Behind” act has been used to stifle the education process of American children in order to allow non-English speaking children to play catch up. This is very wrong and we as citizens of the United States can no longer tolerate this practice and policy at the expense of our children’s education.
Federally mandated testing has served no beneficial educational purpose. Mandated testing has forced our school districts to require teachers to teach (coach) our children to pass a standardized test rather than teaching necessary subject matter of Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic.
Ronald Reagan had the right idea but was unable to follow through with it. The U.S. Department of Education must be eliminated. All Federal laws related to education should be stricken from the books. Legal authority, without interference, to educate our children must be returned to State and Local governments. Local school districts are the ones who must take on full responsibility for the education of our citizens.
Once the responsibility for education is placed back into the hands of State and Local Governments, I believe that the American student will rise to the top. Once again, the American student will be known as the world’s brightest and most promising.
Although taxes are required to support the education of our students, this taxing should not be at the Federal level. The Federal Government currently, “blackmails”, State and Local Governments by threatening to withhold the taxes that you and I pay if local education districts do not bow to the demands of the Federal Government related to education. The portion of Federal taxes that are currently collected and then distributed by the Dept. of Education, and Congress, should no longer be collected at the Federal level. This responsibility should remain in the hands of the State elected bodies.
When elected I will work to reverse the current policies and return the control of education to the rightful people. By that, I mean return control of the education of our children to local school districts, and eliminate the Federal Government totally from control of education.
In November, VOTE for me, Eric Story, to be your next Congressman from Texas Congressional District 29.
