YOUR ECONOMY AND THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

Topping the list of concerns of many in America as well as the citizens of Congressional District 29 is the economy.  There are several aspects of the economy I would like to address in this article.  Included will be the National Economy, the Local Economy, your personal economy, and those government actions that are negatively impacting the economy in these areas.

The National Economy depends largely upon the condition of our local and personal positions in the economy.  If good jobs are readily available, citizens are willing to work and contribute to the economy, etc.  There are however actions taken by the Federal and State elected officials that have a great negative impact on all.  We have all seen actions taken by both Democrats and Republicans over the past 20 years that must now be reversed.

The Congress for a number of years, regardless of who was in charge, has acted as though there was no limit to how much they could spend.  The fact is, no government should ever spend more than we, the citizens, allow them to receive through necessary taxes.  Every time that Congress passes a budget that results in a deficit, they simply print more money. Each time more money is printed at least two things happen.  First, we go deeper into debt to foreign nations, such as China, because the Chinese buy the bonds that back our currency.  Second, every dollar that you earn is suddenly worth less.  If you watch the news, the US Dollar is declining at an alarming rate.  This is due to the excessive spending of the Federal Government.  Of course, this has an immediate impact on your personal economy.  You work hard yet you are not able to get ahead because an out of control Congress has devalued your dollar.

One way that President Bush and the Democratic Congress accomplished this in 2008 was with the passing of the “Economic Stimulus Package” that provides one time tax rebates to the U.S. Taxpayers.  In order to issue these “rebates” (estimated to be between 200 to 300 billion dollars), the Feds will offer for sell Treasury bonds and print more dollars.  This may provide a one-month boost in the economy, but will result in an increase of at least 400 billion dollars in US debt (including interest) and the further reduction in the value of your paycheck.  Had I been in Congress, I would have offered a bill to cut 300 billion in planned spending, and cut taxes, thereby reducing the taxes you pay over the next 12 months accordingly.  This would have provided a 12 month assist to the economy, eliminated the need to borrow money, and would have resulted in a stronger dollar as well as a stronger economy.

I believe that the Clinton/Bush Free Trade agreements have also played a major role in the decline of the US Economy.  I will work to eliminate NAFTA as well as all other agreements that have been detrimental to US workers and our economy.

Our economy is also being greatly impacted by illegal immigration.  Jobs that are needed by American citizens are being illegally filled by those that are in our country illegally from nations around the world.  In addition costs associated with medical care are going up tremendously.  U. S. citizens are paying more for their medical care, and are being taxed more to cover unpaid medical costs that can be largely attributed to emergency medical bills that are not being paid by illegal aliens.  A large majority of illegal aliens are using our hospital emergency rooms to receive treatment at taxpayer expense with no intention of making payment for their treatment.  Allow me to clarify the definition of illegal aliens.  This is anyone, of any race or nationality who are within the borders of the USA without valid documentation.  This includes those that have crossed in illegally and those that have remained past the validity of their visa.

HOW CAN WE IMPROVE THE ECONOMY OF CD 29?

Large sections of CD 29 are occupied by low income and welfare dependent citizens.  These are individuals that cannot afford to drive long distances to work.  Even though there are many small businesses in the District, they cannot supply enough jobs for all of those out of work.  I believe if the current US Representative (Gene Green), actually represented the citizens of 29, he would have long ago reached out to the State and local governments to create an enterprise zone (within 29) that offered tax incentives to any business that would employee over 200 people from workers within 29.   A good case for this would be a large distribution center in the Aldine/North Side area.  A business of this nature would be able to provide employment at all levels, but would be a tremendous source, and opportunity, for entry-level employment for un-skilled workers.

When elected, I pledge to make every effort to properly represent the needs of the citizens of District 29.  Through hard work on my part, and working together with individuals, state and local governments, and businesses, I will work to increase the standard of living for the citizens within Congressional District 29.  I will do this by sponsoring legislation to decrease your tax burden, and increase employment opportunities within my District.

VOTE FOR POSITIVE CHANGE.

VOTE FOR ME, ERIC STORY TO BE YOUR NEXT CONGRESSMAN FROM CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT 29.
